HOW DROPSHIPPING CAN GET TRICKY

As established in my previous post, dropshipping is the most simple way of profiting as an eBay seller. However, you must be wary of many "dropshippers" who try and sell you products at a discount, but serve as middlemen, meaning that they are not the direct whoelsalers. Rather, they are individuals who work with the wholesale companies. You place your order with this so called dropshipper who then places your order with the wholesaler. With this, they end up marking up the product as the "wholesaler" which drives up your wholesale cost. As a result, you end up losing out on profits because you are paying a higher cost for the wholesale merchadise. The Search Engines are full of such scam artists who claim to be real wholesalers, so finding a legitimate one is very difficult and requires extensive research. In fact, out of the millions of wholesalers who claim to be dropshippers, there are only 30 that have been approved by EBay as legitimate. The following two are EBay certified and are approved by the Better Business Bureau and offer thousands of products in hundreds of niche categories!

The first resource, DOBA
, has been featured on CNN.com, Forbes, INC.com and Entrepreneur Magazine among many other trusted and well respected business periodicals and websites as one of the few legitimate product sourcing solution providers. This quote from CNN.com sums up DOBA's efficiency. "The secret source of product to sell continues to be a popular topic for eBay sellers. Product sourcing gurus from companies such as DOBA share new ideas and insight with thousands of sellers clamoring for a secret sauce. The good news is, finding suppliers for the products you want to sell isn't quite the needle-in-a-haystack task it's envisioned to be." DOBA has well established relationships with the best and largest wholesalers in the country. Although many of these wholesalers would not be willing to work with individuals and small business on their own, they do exclusively for DOBA members because of their well established relationships. DOBA also has an excellent reputation for its legitimacy. "DOBA becomes the first product sourcing provider to offer merchants protection against fraudulent buyers. The Doba Fraud Protection Program is also the only protection program that covers the use of drop shipping for order fulfillment." - WebSite Hosting Directory. DOBA even offers a 7-day FREE trial period so you can check out their services and the easy to use system of product sourcing. Sign up for a Doba Free Trial. DOBA works with 170 distributors offering 1,000,000 products with 3,200 brands! You should definitely consider using DOBA's connections for your own eBay selling business.

DROPSHIPPING

EBay selling can get complicated when it comes to shipping the products. Setting up a shipping account with Fedex USPS or any of the major courier services can make eBay selling a hassle. I had a friend who was selling merchandise on eBay out of her home, but became discouraged because of the many shipping dilemmas that she encountered. Dropshipping makes EBay selling a breeze.

Most wholesalers sell products to merchants in bulk, who in turn mark up their product at their retail stores. The mark up becomes the merchant's profit. This process is similar to eBay selling. Large scale eBay sellers purchase products in bulk from a wholesaler. The seller in turn, sells the product on eBay at a higher cost which gives them a profit margin. This is how retail works in a nutshell, whether it is online or at a traditional "brick and mortar" store. The problem with the wholesale method of eBay selling means that you must find a way to store the bulk products and are responsible for shipping the products everytime an order is placed. This can make eBay selling annoying!

Working with a dropshipper completely simplifies this process. A dropshipper is a wholesaler who is willing to work with individuals (as many wholesale companies only work with merchants who buy in bulk) who would sell you individual products to sell on eBay one at a time. The best part of this type of eBay selling is the fact that most of these wholesale companies do not even require you to pay for the product until you make the sale! Many of the best companies even provide you with photos of your products to use in your posting! Once an order is placed, all you would have to do is send the order request to the wholesaler for the product and the wholesale company handles the complete fufillment process! They pick and pack the merchandise and even handle the shipping process! This is how many of the high earning Power Sellers rake in serious money and make eBay selling their primary source of income. So after you have found the most popular product category using Hot Item Finder, the next step is to find the right dropshipper who offers products in your category of choice.

Finding the right product categories to sell can be the toughest part of eBay selling. It requires a tremendous amount of research in order to find which products would be the most profitable. First, you have to find products in categories that are high in demand. You also have to find products in markets that are not overly saturated. For example, the idea of selling high a priced surround sound system may sound like a profitable transaction, but if your competing against a multitude of sellers who are selling the same product, you must offer the most competitive price. This will drive your price down and may lower your profit margin. Sometimes you may have to lower your prices so low that you end up selling your product for the amount that you paid for it! This is why many sellers do not profit. The whole point of eBay selling is to make a decent return on your investment and if you cannot do so, it is not worth it. So the key is to find products that are high in demand and low on competition. Finding such product categories requires extensive research!
